This vintage photograph features the Sowers House, located in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina. Constructed in 1783 by A.L. Long, the house is notable for its unique brickwork and distinctive architectural features, including initials and hearts embedded in the glazed headers. The building represents an important piece of early American architecture, reflecting the craftsmanship of the period.

The Sowers House is documented as part of the Carnegie Survey of the Architecture of the South, which aimed to catalog significant historical structures across the region. This survey has been instrumental in preserving knowledge of early architecture and cultural heritage in the South. The photograph was part of the collection acquired from Frances Benjamin Johnstons estate in 1953 and is featured in Thomas Tileston Watermans publication, The Early Architecture of North Carolina.
