Fargesia robusta 'Formidable'

Pale sheaths remain pressed against the green new canes of Fargesia robusta ‘Formidable’, dividing them into alternating light and dark sections. This checkerboard pattern keeps the supporting canes visible beneath the developing sprays of foliage.

The canes rise close together and stay notably upright, with narrow green leaves arranged along their branching upper sections. A cane does not thicken after it has emerged. Instead, progressively stronger shoots appear in later growing seasons and add height and substance to the clump.
