Austria, Imperial. An Order Of Franz Joseph, Knight’s Cross By V. Mayer’s Sons C.1915

1915-1916 Manufacture. A cross with double headed crowned eagle in gilt bronze, with a central white enameled medallion inscribed “FJ”, along with chains and “Viribus Unitis” (Latin - United Strength) inscribed in bronze gilt; the reverse of the cross with a a central white enameled medallion dated “1849”; with a swivel crown suspension and its period original tri-fold ribbon featuring a bronze gilt “Peacetime” award; marked on ring for V.Mayer, Wien, with star, measuring 56.54 mm x 31.26 mm with its crown suspension; weighing 16.5 grams; in extremely fine condition. In original case of issue, wooden frame wrapped in black leather, gold embossed detailing, marked V.mayer on interior lid, very fine.
